Raising an “Entreated” Generation

Believe it or not, here is how some dictionaries define a treat.

Treat (n.) - An event or item that is out of the ordinary and gives great pleasure.

Unfortunately, a treat is seldom out of the ordinary. In fact, it’s quickly becoming a staple at every meal, snack, and get together. If fruits and vegetables are uncommon or out of the ordinary in your home, you might want to reconsider.

Another factor contributing to this “entreated” attitude might be how much media your child is consuming. The media is full of advertisements for treats and junk food - many more than you think. Plus, the more time your child spends consuming media, the less time they are being active and playing.

Teach.com created this fascinating infographic about “Targeting Children with Treats.” Because it’s National Nutrition Month, we thought it was timely and informative.
